While the factors that contribute to HIV/AIDS — poverty, substance abuse and homelessness — are interwoven, unstable housing is the greatest risk factor for HIV infections/transmission. People living with HIV who are homeless are eight times more likely to decline into AIDS than those with stable housing.
To address the problem of homelessness, we created multiple housing programs, many of them specifically for people living with HIV/AIDS.
We have four emergency beds: two for people living with HIV and two for people waiting for substance abuse treatment. We also have transitional housing for people who are regaining stability in their lives and permanent supportive housing to keep people stably housed.
